According to the Texas State Historical Association, Round Mountain was first settled by Joseph Bird in 1854 and thus originally referred to as Birdtown. The community became a stop on the stage line between Fredericksburg and Austin. By the 1880s, Round Mountain was an established health resort and the local businesses reflected the out-of-town clientele, while maintaining the necessary businesses for the year-round residents. Today, Round Mountain sits along one of the hottest growth corridors in Texas.
